There will be a limited run of the off-Broadway hit Old Jews Telling Jokes at the Indian Wells Theater on the CSUSB campus in Palm Desert. The National Touring Production is now playing through March 15, but it will be over on March 15.
In Old Jews Telling Jokes, five actors perform jokes from both the past and the present in a revue-style show. It’s been called a “pickle-barrel full of laughter.” Jewish humor has a long history, and this book celebrates all the rabbis, complaining wives, fed-up husbands, patience-challenged doctors, gossiping ladies, and competitive men that make up that history and live in it. People who call themselves “Old Jews” make fun of themselves and other people who follow other religions in the movie. “Philip Roger Roy said that,” “The Catskills are known for their comedy. You can think of jokes, songs, stories, skits, and routines when you think of comedy. The humor is a lot like the great Jewish comics, like Buddy Hackett, Alan King, Tom Lehrer, and a lot of other great ones.” Warning: There will be adult humor. Not for people under the age of 21.
