The Monmouth County Clerk’s Office at Market Yard, 33 Mechanic Street, Freehold, has asked the Jewish Heritage Museum of Monmouth County to host an exhibit. From Malabar to Monmouth County: A Global Connection to the Jews of India is the theme of this year’s exhibit.
This mini-exhibit, which is based on the Museum’s current rotating exhibit, Jews of India: The History and Practices of the Bene Israel, Cochin, and Baghdadi Jews, tells the story of the three main Jewish Indian groups: Bene Israel, Cochin, and Baghdadi Jews, their origins, and impact on Monmouth County, with family photos, a ceremonial Malida dish, and other selected artifacts. Through the tale of Sophie and Yochanan Perry, the exhibit’s initial contributors illustrate the connection between Indian Jews and the United States. The exhibit will be on display until Tuesday, August 31, 2021, during the Clerk’s regular office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
