(JTA) – The Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTA) has Members of India’s Jewish community, who claim to be descended from one of Israel’s lost tribes, have begun Passover preparations.
On Thursday, the Bnei Menashe community gathered in Churachandpur, India’s northeastern district, to bake matzah. The baking took place in a Shavei Israel facility, which aims to bring “lost” and “hidden” Jews closer to the Jewish state.
According to a statement, “the experience of seeing the entire community kneading, rolling, and finally baking the dough — all as the timer shouts out the minutes — is amazing.” Ohaliav Haokip, 31, of Churachandpur, agreed. “Everyone in the room can sense the pressure of baking the matzah on time – it’s reminiscent of Biblical times and our grandparents’ haste to depart Egypt.”
