Camera Rolling for Documentary on Kolkata’s Jews

The documentary that fits this description is Dwelling in Travelling (2019), directed by Kolkata filmmaker Subha Das Mollick. It traces the history of Kolkata’s Jewish community from the 1798 arrival of Shalom Cohen from Syria through to today, when only around 20 Jewish residents remain in the city.

About the Film

Dwelling in Travelling screened in the Indian Competition section of the Mumbai International Film Festival (January 28–February 3, 2020). It features archival footage and interviews with the community’s surviving members, and covers figures such as real-estate developer David Ezra and the long-running Nahoum & Sons bakery, founded in 1902 and still trading in Kolkata’s New Market.
