The Girl from Foreign: A Memoir (2008) is a real book by Sadia Shepard, who also directed the related short documentary In Search of the Bene Israel (2008). The memoir recounts Shepard’s discovery of her grandmother’s Bene Israel Jewish heritage and her journey to Bombay to learn more about the community.
